Let’s dive into the fixes.

1. Check the door latch

The door latch in the microwave is responsible for keeping the door closed during operation. 

It helps to keep the door tightly closed to prevent steam and heat from leaking outside the microwave. 

A door latch is a safety feature that helps to prevent injuries by engaging the door lock to prevent accidental opening while using it. 

If the door latch is faulty, it will cause a door error in the microwave. 

In such a case, you must replace the door latch. 

Follow the steps below to replace the door latch:

• Unplug the microwave from the electric outlet to avoid electric injuries.
• Open the microwave door and unthread two screws securing the microwave’s vent.
• After unthreading the screws, slide the vent to the left to detach it from the microwave, or use a putty knife to pop the vent out.
• Lift the microwave’s door to detach it from the hinges and detach it from it.
• Place the microwave on the solid surface of the blanket.
• Using a putty knife, detach the inner door trim from the outer door. Take the putty knife along the door’s frame to detach it completely.
• You can see four screws securing the inner door assembly to the outer door.
• Unthread all these 4 screws using a screwdriver to remove the inner door assembly from the outer door.
• After unthreading the screws, use a flathead screwdriver to detach the inner door assembly from the outer door.
• You can see a door latch attached at the right side of the inner door assembly, and you can also see a spring attached near the door latch.
• Using a nose plier, unhook the spring from the door latch.
• Detach the faulty door latch by sliding it down.
• Prepare the new door latch to replace the old one.
• Replace the new door latch by locking it into the slots.
• Using a nose plier, reattach the door spring to the new latch.
• Realign the inner door to the outer one by fixing it in the position. Lock the inner lock into its slots.
• Reattach the 4 screws you removed earlier to secure the inner door to the outer door.
• Reattach the trim and align it in place.
• Reattach the door to the microwave by attaching the hinge pins to the hinges attached to the microwave frame.
• Reattach the vent to the microwave by locking the bottom side first, followed by the top.
• Next, reattach the 2 screws you removed earlier to detach the vent.
• Plug in the microwave and check if the issue is solved. 

2. Check the door hook

LG microwave contains hooks attached to the door lock and switches to make opening and closing the door easy. 

You can locate the door hook in the microwave’s door, which is connected to the door switch to turn off the microwave when the door is opened. 

If the door hook is broken or damaged, door switches will not be able to perform their function. 

A door error may occur in the LG microwave in such a case. 

To fix this issue, you must replace the door hook.

Follow the steps below to replace the door hook from your microwave.

• Unplug the microwave from the electric outlet. It would be hot if your microwave operated just before you unplugged it. Wait until the microwave is completely cooled to avoid injuries.
• Unthread the screws at the microwave’s top to detach the top vent.

• You can see two screws securing the control panel.

• Unthread the screws to remove the switch assembly from the microwave.
• Inspect the hooks connected to the switch assembly for damages.
• Replace the faulty hooks with the new ones and reassemble the switch assembly.
• Reattach the switch assembly to the back of the control panel housing and thread the screws to secure the assembly.
• Reattach the control panel and reconnect all the wire connectors to the main control board by referring to the digital photo you took.
• Secure the control panel by threading a screw at its top using a screwdriver.
• Reattach the top vent of the microwave by locking it in the slots.
• Rethread the screws at the top of the microwave to secure the top vent.
• Close the door and plug in the microwave. Check if the door issue is solved in your microwave. 

3. Inspect the wiring connections

The door switch of the microwave is connected to many wires, which helps connect the door switch and the main control board. 

At times, wires may become corroded, loose, or damaged, hampering the communication between the door sensor and the control panel. 

So, check the wiring connection with the door switch and replace them if faulty. 

You can access the door switch by removing the control panel and detaching the door switch from the microwave’s control panel housing frame.

• Unplug the microwave from the electric outlet.
• Open the microwave door and unthread the screws at the top to detach the top vent.
• After unthreading the screws, pry the top vent using a putty knife to remove it.
• You can see a screw securing the control panel on the right side. Unthread the screw to remove the control panel.
• Unthread a screw using a screwdriver and tilt forward the control panel.
• You can see the main control board at the back of the control panel. It will be connected with so many wire connections. Consider taking a digital picture of the wire connections for future reference.
• Detach all the wires from the main control board and detach the control panel completely from the microwave.
• You can locate the switch assembly at the back side of the control panel housing frame.
• Inspect if there are damages in the wires. See if they are corrupted. If yes, use a brush to remove the corrosion at the terminals gently.
• Using a multimeter, check the continuity of the wires. If they show no continuity, replace them with new ones.
• Gently remove the faulty wires and replace them with new ones.
• Reattach the door switch and secure it with screws.
• Reattach all the wires to the main control board.
• Reattach the control panel and secure it with the screw at the top.
• Reattach the top vent and secure it with the screws at the top of the microwave.
• Close the microwave’s door and plug it into the electric outlet.

4. Check the door spring

The door spring of the microwave is attached to the latch on the door.

• After unthreading the screws, slide the vent to the left to detach it from the microwave, or use a putty knife to pop the vent out.
• Lift the microwave’s door to detach it from the hinges and detach it from it.
• Place the microwave on the solid surface of the blanket.
• Using a putty knife, detach the inner door trim from the outer door. Take the putty knife along the door’s frame to detach it completely.
• You can see four screws securing the inner door assembly to the outer door.
• Unthread all these 4 screws using a screwdriver to remove the inner door assembly from the outer door.
• After unthreading the screws, use a flathead screwdriver to detach the inner door assembly from the outer door.
• You can see a door latch attached at the right side of the inner door assembly, and you can also see a spring attached near the door latch.
• Using a nose plier, unhook the spring from the door latch and discard it.
• Replace the new spring and attach it to the door latch using a nose plier.
• Realign the inner door to the outer one by fixing it in the position. Lock the inner lock into its slots.
• Reattach the 4 screws you removed earlier to secure the inner door to the outer door.
• Reattach the trim and align it in place.
• Reattach the door to the microwave by attaching the hinge pins to the hinges attached to the microwave frame.
• Reattach the vent to the microwave by locking the bottom side first, followed by the top.
• Next, reattach the 2 screws you removed earlier to detach the vent.
• Plug in the microwave and check if the issue is solved. 

5. Check the door switch assembly

The door switch plays an important role in signaling the control panel to prevent the microwave from starting when the door is opened. 

The switches in the door switch assembly may break or stop functioning effectively in the long run. 

In such a case, you must replace the door switch assembly in your microwave: 

Follow the steps below to replace the faulty door switch assembly:

• Unplug the microwave from the electric outlet to avoid electrical injuries.
• Unthread the screws at the microwave’s top to detach the microwave’s top vent.
• Now, open the microwave door to look at the top of the control panel.
• You can see two screws securing the control panel.
• Unthread the screws to tilt the control panel forward from the microwave.
• After unthreading the screws, remove the control panel from the microwave by releasing it from the locking tabs.
• Now, you have to detach the control panel completely from the microwave.
• Once you have tilted the control panel, you can see many wire connectors connected to the main control board. Detach all the wire connectors after taking the digital picture for future reference.
• Place aside the control panel.
• Once you have detached the control panel, you can see a switch assembly attached to hooks at the back of the control panel frame.
• Unthread the screws to remove the switch assembly from the microwave.
• Once you have removed the switch assembly, check it with the multimeter.
• Manually remove each switch at the top and bottom of the assembly and check it manually.
• You must replace the entire switch assembly if the multimeter shows no connectivity.
• Prepare the new switch assembly to replace the old one.
• Replace the new switch assembly and secure it with screws at the back side of the control panel housing.
• Reconnect all the wires with the control panel and reattach the control panel.
• Secure the control panel with a screw above it.
• Reattach the top vent and rethread the screws at the top of the microwave using a screwdriver.
• Plug in the microwave and check if the issue is solved.

6. Reset the microwave

Door error is caused by control panel glitches or software issues; resetting your microwave will often fix the issue. 

Follow the steps below to reset your microwave:

• Unplug the microwave from the electric outlet. 
• Let it stay unplugged for 15 to 30 minutes. 
• Replug it back into the electric outlet, and the reset is complete. 

After resetting your microwave, reset the timer and check if the door error is cleared.

7. Check the main control board

The control board is an important part of the microwave controlling all the vital functions like regulating temperatures and sending and receiving signals from different parts of the microwave like door switches and sensors.

• You can see the main control board at the back of the control panel. It will be connected with so many wire connections. Consider taking a digital picture of the wire connections for future reference.
• Detach all the wires from the main control board and detach the control panel completely from the microwave.
• Place the control panel in a safer place and turn it back to locate the control board.
• Unthread the screws securing the main control board.
• Remove the faulty control board and replace it with the new one.
• Secure the new main control board with screws and reconnect all the wire connections by referring to the digital photo you took.
• Reattach the control panel and secure it with screws.
• Reattach the vent and secure it with screws at the top of the microwave.
• Close the door and plug the microwave into the electric outlet.
